Hannover, Germany (September 19, 2012) - The ISX12 G natural gas engine is making its European debut on the Cummins stand at IAA, Hannover (Hall 11, D19). The 11.9 litre engine will be available in North America in early 2013 from 330 to 400 ps for alternative fuel heavy-duty truck applications, with a peak torque of 1966 Nm.

Neil Pattison, Director - Automotive Engine Business for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: ‘Cummins has recognised the growing interest in natural gas products, by developing two new heavy-duty additions to the product line. The ISX12 G was recently shown at the Mid-America Truck Show and is making its first appearance in Europe at IAA.  It will be ready for EPA 2013 emissions and Euro 6 will follow. The larger ISX15 G version

will be available in 2015.”

The ISX12 G natural gas engine is based on the Cummins ISX12 diesel engine platform, the newest member of Cummins Heavy-Duty engine family. It will operate on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG), utilising spark-ignition with stoichiometric combustion and cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology, first introduced with the 8.9 litre ISL G.

The ISX12 G also features the same style of Three-Way Catalyst (3WC) aftertreatment as used on the ISL G. It is packaged in the silencer and is maintenancefree.  The engine is so clean there is no need for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

Manufactured in Cummins’ Heavy-Duty Engine Plant in Jamestown, N.Y., U.S., the ISX12 G will also be the first Cummins gas engine offering optional engine brake capability and compatibility with a range of manual and automatic transmissions.

“The ISX12 G will provide operators with the heavy-duty performance, reliability and durability they expect from Cummins, with the environmental benefits of natural gas. The clean design means it is capable of meeting future emissions like the planned U.S. greenhouse gas and fuel economy regulations,” added Pattison

The ISX15 G will be based on the 15 litre diesel engine and using the same lowemission technologies as the 11.9 litre product. It will have ratings up to 500 ps with a maximum peak torque of 2370 Nm.
