Installation and Update

How do I install and update the software on my QuickCheck handheld computer?

  1. Install the latest version of PowerSpec PC on your PC or laptop. Note that PowerSpec PC no longer supports Windows XP; therefore to update the software on your QuickCheck handheld you’ll need a PC with Windows 7 or newer operating system.
  2. Attach the QuickCheck Handheld Computer to you PC or laptop using the USB cable.  Verify the QuickCheck device is powered on. If not, press the red power button on the keypad.
  3. Launch the PowerSpec PC application. QuickCheck updates (if any) will occur automatically during the PowerSpec-to-QuickCheck synchronization process.

I have PowerSpec PC installed on my Windows XP PC.  My QC5100/QC5200 syncs and connects to PowerSpec, but how do I update the software on my QuickCheck handheld computer?
You are running an older version of PowerSpec PC (5.4 or older) and it must be upgraded.  New versions of PowerSpec PC support Windows 7 or newer operating systems, so you must install the new version of PowerSpec PC on a PC that meets this OS requirement. Once PowerSpec is installed, follow the instructions under the FAQ "How do I install and update the software on my QuickCheck handheld computer?”

Why won't my QuickCheck application suite software install properly?

  1. Verify that your computer and operating system meet the minimum system requirements specified in the User's Manuals available from the on-line manuals page. Note that the Cummins QuickCheck application suite software is not Mac-compatible.
  2. Verify that you are using the latest version of PowerSpec PC on your PC or laptop.  The latest version of PowerSpec PC can be downloaded here.

QuickCheck Hardware

What should I do if my QuickCheck handheld does not turn on?
Verify that the QuickCheck handheld is receiving external power through the DB25 power/data link cable. If the orange power LED on the QuickCheck device is not on (blinking or on continuously), check for bent pins on the DB25 connector. If the orange LED is blinking, this indicates that the battery in the QuickCheck is being charged. The orange LED remains on continuously when the battery is fully charged. With the QuickCheck main screen closed, verify the status of the battery charge with the Settings, Control Panel, Power properties program. If the battery does not retain a charge for long after being recharged for 8 hours, it may need to be replaced.

What should I do if my QuickCheck software applications indicate that the data link is down or there is no vehicle data being received?
This indicates that the QuickCheck handheld is not communicating over the vehicle data link. Verify that the data link cable is securely connected and there are no bent connector pins (try disconnecting and reconnecting the DB25/data link cable at both ends). Also verify that the vehicle keyswitch is in the "On" position, and the ECM is properly connected and receiving power.
