Features and Parameters

The Power Take Off (PTO) feature should be enabled if the vehicle has PTO driven devices on board or if the operator has a need for controlled idle speeds in addition to the standard idle feature limits. The three pre-programmed engine speeds and other PTO associated feature options and parameters are setup using Cummins PowerSpec.

Power Take Off (PTO)
Choose this feature if the benefits, security and flexibility of the PTO feature's accurate speed control are desired.

PTO Maximum Vehicle Speed
This is the vehicle speed above which PTO cannot be activated. If PTO is active and the vehicle speed exceeds this value, PTO will be automatically deactivated. The range is between 0 and 15 mph.

PTO Maximum Engine Speed
This parameter is used to limit maximum engine speed while using PTO. It should be set with equipment protection in mind. If the engine drives a pumping system that has a maximum speed rating of 1800 rpm, this parameter should be set accordingly. The range is between the Idle Minimum Engine Speed parameter and 2500 rpm.

PTO Minimum Engine Speed
This parameter is used to limit engine speed while using PTO. It should be set with equipment performance in mind. If the engine drives a pumping system that requires 1100 rpm operating speed to run efficiently, this parameter should be set accordingly. The range is between the Idle Minimum Engine Speed parameter and 2500 rpm. The PTO Minimum Engine Speed must be set at a value lower than that of the PTO Maximum Engine Speed.

PTO Set Switch Engine Speed
At vehicle speeds of less than the customer programmed PTO Maximum Vehicle Speed, when the operator selects SET using the SET/RESUME switch, the engine will run at the PTO SET Switch Engine Speed. Specify the engine speed to be obtained when the PTO Set Switch Speed is chosen. The range is between the PTO Minimum Engine Speed and PTO Maximum Engine Speed parameters.

PTO ResumeSwitch Engine Speed
At vehicle speeds of less than the customer programmed PTO Maximum Vehicle Speed, when the operator selects RESUME using the SET/RESUME switch, the engine will run at the PTO RESUME Switch Engine Speed. Specify the engine speed to be obtained when the PTO Resume Switch Speed is chosen. The range is between the PTO Minimum Engine Speed and PTO Maximum Engine Speed parameters.

PTO Additional Speed Switch Engine Speed
Specify the engine speed obtained when the PTO Additional Speed is chosen. The range is between the PTO Minimum Engine Speed and PTO Maximum Engine Speed parameters.

PTO Accelerator Override
Choose this feature to allow the operator to use the accelerator to increase engine speed without disengaging the PTO function. Engine speed can be overridden up to the PTO Accelerator Override Maximum Engine Speed parameter. Remember that the PTO Maximum Engine Load parameter will still limit torque output in accelerator override mode. If the accelerator is released, the engine speed will return to the PTO speed in effect before the accelerator override event.

PTO Accelerator Override Maximum Engine Speed
Specify the maximum speed the engine will achieve during use of the PTO Accelerator Override feature. This parameter limits engine speed during the accelerator override mode and may be set above the PTO Maximum Engine Speed parameter to allow higher engine speeds during override conditions. It should be set at the maximum speed rating of equipment that may be used in conjunction with the accelerator override function. The range is between the Idle Minimum Engine Speed parameter and 2500 rpm.

PTO Service Brake Override
Choose this feature to allow the operator to disengage the PTO function by depressing the service brake pedal. This feature allows the service brake pedal to be used as an automatic PTO disengage switch.

PTO Clutch Override
Choose this feature to allow the operator to disengage the PTO function by depressing the clutch pedal. This feature allows the clutch pedal to be used as an automatic PTO disengage switch.

PTO Maximum Engine Load
Specify the maximum torque the engine can provide during PTO operation. This parameter is used to protect equipment and can be setup when the PTO feature drives torque sensitive devices. It is in effect during all PTO functions, including accelerator override. It should be set to the maximum torque limit of the torque sensitive device. The range is between 100 and 2500 ft-lbs.

PTO Engine Speed Switch Ramp Rate
Should the operator require an engine speed other than any of the three preset speeds, the SET/RESUME switch can be used to progressively increase or decrease rpm. accordingly. The ramp rate parameter will determine how quickly the engine speed will change. Unlike Cruise Control, there is no incremental bumping of speeds, only ramping. The SET/RESUME switch must be held in the desired direction to complete the speed change. This assures a smooth transition to the desired speed. The parameter should be setup according to devices used by the PTO function. Keep in mind that the ramp rate is a target - the actual rate at which the engine changes speed will be determined by the magnitude of the load in place as well as the power/torque available. The range of ramp rate is between 100 to 2500 rpm/sec.

PTO Ignore VSS
When this feature is enabled, the PTO feature will continue to control engine speed regardless of whether or not vehicle speed is above the PTO Maximum Vehicle Speed. This allows the driver to ignore PTO dependence on vehicle speed.

This feature is used when the VSS is mounted on the transmission output shaft which will signal vehicle speed when the drive line or the PTO device is engaged. This feature causes the ECM to ignore the VSS signal when PTO is engaged so that the speedometer will display 0 mph thus accumulating no mileage. The ECM still logs engine run hours but will not accumulate miles when the PTO Ignore VSS feature is enabled. only ramping. The SET/RESUME switch must be held in the desired direction If your vehicle is configured so that the transmission is engaged to drive the PTO device, this feature would fit your application.

PTO Transmission Interlock
A required parameter which indicates to the tool whether the PTO Transmission Interlock feature is enabled or disabled.
