The PTO feature is designed to provide constant engine speeds regardless of loads. It can be used in a wide variety of applications that require the engine to provide power to auxiliary devices. The feature is designed to protect these devices by limiting torque and speed. It can also be setup to allow the use of the accelerator.
PTO Control Switches
The PTO feature uses the same switches as the Cruise Control feature. All PTO operation must occur at speeds less than the customer programmable PTO Maximum Vehicle Speed. Your vehicle will be equipped with two PTO switches. The first is the ON/OFF and the second controls the SET, RESUME, ACCEL, and COAST functions.
Note: OEMs have the flexibility of setting the second switch up as:
Be sure to understand the way your PTO switches are set up. For more information see OEM Vehicle Setup - Cruise Control Switch Settings.
To Activate PTO, do all of the following:
To increase or decrease PTO speed:
- Start at 0 (no PTO engaged 0 rpm)
- Hit "set" button (bumps up to e.g. 500rpm)
- Hit + "set" button again (bumps up to e.g. 600rpm)
- Hit "set" button again (bumps up to e.g. 700rpm).
- At any time hit the "resume" button to go back down an rpm level
To use the accelerator (ONLY if the PTO Accelerator Override feature is enabled):
Depress the accelerator. This will temporarily increase engine speed (limited by the PTO Accelerator Override Maximum Engine Speed parameter). PTO will automatically resume engine control when the accelerator is released.
To disable PTO, do just ONE of the following:
Press the brake pedal (ONLY if the PTO Brake Override feature is enabled), OR
Press the clutch pedal (ONLY if the PTO Clutch Override feature is enabled), OR
Flip the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
PTO engine speed and torque output are limited by several pre programmable parameters. These parameters are used to protect the auxiliary devices powered by the engine. This means the engine may achieve different maximum engine speeds under different operating and loading conditions. If there is a problem with engine speed or power during PTO operation, check the PTO parameters to ensure proper setup.
