ISM Load Based Speed Control
Load Based Speed Control is a programmable engine feature available on the ISX and ISM engine platforms. Load Based Speed Control (LBSC) is designed to assist the driver in operating the engine efficiently, while maintaining engine speeds within an RPM range that improves fuel economy based on operating conditions. In essence, when maximum performance is NOT required, LBSC manages the operating range of the engine for maximum efficiency.
LBSC is intended to operate along with the Cummins Road Speed Governor (RSG) and Gear Down Protection (GDP) features to maximize fuel economy. LBSC manages engine speed in the remaining lower transmission gears (example: gears 1 thru 8 of a 10-speed transmission).
In addition to the fuel economy benefits, LBSC promotes vehicle operation at lower engine speeds and vehicle noise is lowered.
