Body Builder IQA.
Cummins and our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers have a mutual interest in delivering the highest-quality products. Installation Quality Audits (IQA) are intended to ensure that end user customers have rewarding experiences with their vehicles.
The IQA process is necessary to evaluate the quality of vehicle installations. In the cases where one manufacturer designs and builds a strip chassis and a second manufacturer designs and builds the body, Cummins will work directly with the chassis manufacturer. The chassis manufacturer is then responsible for communicating Cummins requirements to the second-tier manufacturer(s) and documenting compliance.
Cummins and the chassis manufacturer will work together to develop a chassis package that meets Cummins installation requirements. One or more representative vehicles will be scrutinized in detail to determine compliance with Cummins requirements. Other bodies built on these scrutinized chassis will be reviewed for significant differences in design or manufacturing. If differences are noted, subsequent testing may be required at Cummins discretion.
The chassis manufacturer is responsible for completing a Body Builder IQA checklist for each chassis/body combination. The supporting Cummins Application Engineer will then review the checklist. If no major discrepancies are noted, an approval letter will be issued.
Cummins automotive engines are now integrated with Cummins Particulate Filters developed and manufactured by Cummins Emission Solutions. The Cummins Particulate Filter assembly consists of a diesel oxidation catalyst, a diesel particulate filter, temperature sensors, differential pressure sensor, and exhaust-silencing components integrated into a modular housing. Body Builders must not modify or relocate this assembly or any components associated with it. It is also the case that there should not be any modifications made to the exhaust piping from turbo outlet to aftertreatment inlet.
